Rydvall Mjelva Carr brings together three leading voices in Nordic music—Erik Rydvall on nyckelharpa, Olav Luksengård Mjelva on hardanger fiddle, and Ale Carr on cittern. After years of meeting on the road and inspiring each other’s work, the trio has formed a new collaboration rooted in the musical traditions of Sweden and Norway.
Their sound merges the resonance of Nordic folk with the refined detail of chamber and baroque influences. With a shared focus on craftsmanship, improvisation, and melodic depth, they explore Scandinavian tunes with both precision and imagination.
Rydvall and Mjelva have contributed to major film and game productions including The Lord of the Rings, Loki, and God of War, while Carr is widely known for his work with Dreamers’ Circus and collaborations across the Nordic and international music scenes.
Together, they shape a contemporary expression of Nordic tradition—three master musicians creating a vibrant and unmistakable sound.

Lodestar trio
Exploring new sounds between folk and Baroque
Lodestar Trio unites Scandinavian folk musicians Erik Rydvall (nyckelharpa) and Olav Luksengård Mjelva(Hardanger fiddle) with British-German violinist Max Baillie. Together they blend Nordic folk traditions with the finesse of Baroque music, creating a sound shaped by groove, improvisation, and rich string textures.
Since their formation in 2018, the trio has toured widely across Europe and made their Barbican Centre debut in 2024, with features on BBC and national radio stations across Germany, Norway, Sweden, and Belgium. Their acclaimed album Bach to Folk (Naxos, 2022) presents reimagined Bach works alongside Baroque repertoire and Nordic tunes.
Recent and upcoming projects include collaborations with Barokkanerne, Bryggen Strings, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, and Icelandic composer Viktor Arnason. As individual artists, all three members are celebrated performers with international careers, major collaborations, and numerous film and concert credits.

The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc brings together three leading fiddle traditions — Norway, Sweden, and Shetland — in a trio renowned for its unique blend of precision, drive, and rich harmonic interplay. Since forming in 2009, Kevin Henderson, Olav Luksengård Mjelva and Anders Hall have played hundreds of concerts across Europe and North America, earning international recognition for their powerful sound and string-quartet-like depth.

Afargang
Dark. Nordic. Relentless.
Afargang is the metal project founded by Olav L. Mjelva, merging Nordic folk elements with heavy, atmospheric metal. After years of shaping the concept, Afargang released its debut album Andvake on By Norse in June 2025. The band features Stian Kårstad (guitar), Sindre Bråthen Tjørswaag (bass), Jon Even Schärer (drums), and Haldor Bromstad(vocals/growling).
Olav’s distinct fiddle sound and compositional voice run through the album, creating a dark and powerful musical landscape. Andvake has received strong critical acclaim, praised for its intensity, depth, and unmistakably Nordic character.
